Editorial Standards

The806er covers West Texas with a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and transparency. These standards guide how we report and publish.
Sourcing and verification
- We verify facts before publishing and attribute information to its source.
- We prefer named, on-the-record sources and corroborate claims where possible.
- User-submitted tips are reviewed by a person and are never auto-published.
Anonymous sources
We use anonymous sources only when the information is important, verifiable, and cannot be obtained another way, and we explain why anonymity was granted.
Fairness
- We seek comment from people or organizations named critically in our reporting.
- We distinguish clearly between news, analysis, and opinion.
Naming individuals and minors
We weigh the public interest against potential harm before naming private individuals, especially in crime coverage, and we take extra care before identifying minors.
Independence
Advertising and sponsorship never determine our coverage. Sponsored material is labeled per our Sponsored-Content Policy.
Errors
When we get something wrong, we fix it transparently under our Corrections Policy.
